POSITION SUMMARY:

The 653 Inspector will be responsible for all activities related to API 653 in the following areas: Working with Construction Services, Fixed Reliability, critical reliability schedules, and operations on-site to satisfy Flint Hills Refinery-Pine Bend requirements. It is the responsibility of the 653 Inspector to operate on a cost-effective and profitable basis within the framework of company approved policies, objectives, and budgets.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ACTIVITIES:

  • Documentation of work performed and project progress
  • Review existing construction drawings
  • Follow tank repairs to approved ITP's
  • Customer interaction and update of QA/QC status
  • Overseeing, reviewing, and witnessing NDT
  • Verifying weld spacing requirements and drawings
  • Monitoring pre-heat during welding, verifying MTR's
  • Other related activities as directed by the client
  • Participate in turnaround activities
    • Provide daily client contact for all relevant matters
    • Attend required meetings with Flint Hills Refinery (FHR) personnel and share any required information with management and the workforce
    • Responsible for meeting compliance deadlines regarding Mistras/FHR reporting requirements for 653
    • Works with the NDE Compliance Manager to schedule appropriate staffing when necessary
    • Communicate personnel and equipment needs with the Site Supervisor
    • Monitor hours worked and seek approval when exceeding the number of scheduled hours
    • Ensure department project timeliness, accuracy, and completion of all assigned tasks
    • Display professionalism, proper communication with client and crews
    • Focus on improvement of service offered to FHR
    • Perform any other duties as assigned by management
      MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
      • UT, MT, PT, and MFE certifications preferred
      • 3+ years of direct 653 experience
      • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
      • Comprehensive knowledge of operating policies and procedures
      • Demonstrated ability to audit the flow of data to ensure reliability; and control the reliability of company data
      • Proven ability to deal with personnel issues as they arise
      • Proven ability to operate necessary office equipment and business machines, including computer systems
      • Ability to work 12-hour shifts and availability for weekends and night shift
      • Must hold a High School Diploma or equivalent
      • Must hold a valid Driver's License PREFERRED NOT REQUIRED:
        • Proficient in reading/understanding construction drawings (blueprints)
        • AWS CWI Certification
        • API 510/570/NACE Certifications WORK CONDITIONS:
          • Approximately 25% of work is conducted in a semi-private office/cubicle setting
          • Approximately 75% of work is field duties consisting of outdoor work in a plant atmosphere
          • Working in plant and/or shop areas around production machinery with extreme noise levels
            • Ability to climb, push and pull
            • Ability to work in an environment that can be extremely hot, noisy, and dusty, at high elevations with moving objects and hazardous materials
            • Ability to work alone or with others
            • Ability to read and write in English
            • Ability to communicate effectively and make sound decisions
              ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS:
              • Frequent lifting up to 45 lbs
              • Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by Mistras and FHR safety procedures
              • May be at more than one job site in a day and must be able to tolerate climate changes
