Imaging Services Technologist Position Summary:

This position accurately applies ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis, including skills required in performing a variety of technical procedures, resulting in the highest quality diagnostic radiograph, with the least amount of radiation exposure to the patient. Additionally, this position will perform Mammographic examinations of the breast to help diagnose breast disease. Gains patient cooperation and reduces anxieties, provides explanations of imaging procedures, explains equipment and answers questions. Follows all quality assurance guidelines set forth by the FDA and Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA)

    A Day in the Life of an Imaging Services Technologist at MyMichigan Health:

    • (50%)* Performs high quality mammographic and radiographic examinations with accurate positioning and proper technique by following established standards. Minimizes radiation exposure to staff and patients by practicing radiation protection techniques.

    • (25%)* Positions patient and equipment appropriately to accurately demonstrate the area being examined, requiring extensive anatomic positioning skills. Adjusts technical factors to provide appropriate exposure by use of independent judgement, knowledge of human anatomy, effect of disease and principles of radiation.

    • (25%)* Provides appropriate radiation protection for patient and staff during radiation exposures according to prescribed safety standards. Functions independently in daily work related responsibilities. Performs daily quality assurance testing and monitoring established by the department according to guidelines. Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and calling for service.

      Requirements We Are Looking For:

      • Associate's Degree Required

      • ARRT registry or registry eligible required

      • ARRT M certification within one year of hire or transfer

      • If not mammography registered, meet the MQSA initial mammography training requirements of 40 hours of mammography continuing education credits within 2 months of hire and performance of 25 mammograms under direct supervision of a qualified mammographer.

        Other Duties and Responsibilities:

        • Maintains dept. supplies. Communicates with Alpena staff on patient related processes. Utilizes PACS and Epic in all required workflows.

        • Maintains professional acumen through active association with professional organizations. Shows evidence of continuing education in radiography as necessary to remain current with profession. Attends in-service educational programs and departmental meetings.

        • Initiates requisitions, adds or modifies charges, acknowledges exams, requiring the use of the computer. Ability to recognize and report malfunction of radiographic equipment appropriately. All other duties as assigned
