Job Summary:
The English Language Learner Facilitator is responsible for assisting K-12 English Learners (EL), and potentially preschool/post-12 EL students, at constituent school districts. The ELL Facilitator collaborates with local districts and GISD staff and administrators to ensure quality of services provided. The ELL Facilitator provides support in developing English proficiency and supports the students' access to grade level content expectations. The ELL Facilitator may work one-on-one with a group of EL students.

Contracted position; $14.00 to $15.50 per hour.

Essential Duties (May include by not limited to):
Responsible for assisting English Learners, generally grades K-12, at constituent school districts.
Works collaboratively with school staff, ESOL program staff, students, and families.
Communicates regularly and effectively with the ESOL Program staff and local district staff and administrators both orally and in writing.
Provides EL student support in developing English proficiency and assistance with grade level content expectations.
Develops and documents the speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills of EL student(s) through instructional support based on the State EL standards.
Develops content academic vocabulary and language skills appropriate to the student's grade level.
Collaborates with the EL student's classroom teacher(s) and/or ESL Teachers to help the student complete and comprehend content lessons and assignments.
Integrates the instruction of strategies to help improve the student's independent academic performance.
Develops and maintains accurate records documenting schedules, work detail, student linguistic development and/or accommodations and more.
Actively participates in ESOL Program professional development meetings and applies learning to work with students.
Provides input about culture and language acquisition to facilitate understanding in the school community.
Facilitates home/school communication and partnership promoting access to information and translation; may provide translation services as requested by Supervisor.
Consistently models Win-Win leadership.

Other Duties:
Provides input regarding English as a Second/Other Language (ESOL) programs and services, at the request of ESL Certified GISD Staff.
Other duties as assigned.


High school diploma or equivalent. Minimally sixty (60) credit hours of college coursework in education, world language, social work, or related field preferred. Coursework from a Michigan teacher preparation program in second language acquisition/linguistics/ESOL methodology desirable. Michigan teaching certifications with ESL/Bilingual endorsement desirable.

Two years documented experience working with linguistically and/or culturally diverse, school-age children preferred. Experience supporting or implementing English language instruction with bilingual children/English Learners desirable. Experience supporting bi/multi-lingual children's access to content desirable.

Ability to read, write, understand and speak interpersonal and academic English proficiently. Ability to communicate with people of all ages. Ability to accept direction and collaborate with teachers and staff. Ability to communicate with ESOL Program staff and local school district staff through electronic mail and/or other manners. Ability to represent the intermediate school district in a professional manner at all times. Valid Michigan Driver's License and the ability to travel to and from the intermediate school district and constituent districts. Ability to work a flexible workday, work week, and work year. Cultural competency to work with students and families of various linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Ability to accurately complete required paperwork and reports. Punctuality and good attendance are requirements of the position. Advanced bilingual abilities preferred. Ability to exercise good judgement and make decisions in accordance with board policy and established administrative guidelines.
