The Division of Student Affairs contributes to our inclusive environment and students' success through an approach that encompasses five core values: community and belonging; equity and inclusion; engagement and leadership; health and wellness; and co-curricular and integrative learning. Under general supervision of the Director, the Coordinator supports overall operations of the Center for Gender and Sexuality (CGS) by providing a broad array of services, programs, and resources for students who identify as LGBTQIA+ and allies, and through creating/sustaining supportive campus environments in a dynamic, urban campus setting. The Coordinator position is a Responsible Employee under university policies. Responsibilities*Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide support, consultation, and resources for students within the LGBTQIA+ communities and allies.
  • Design, deliver and assess educational programming and facilitated discussions on LGBTQIA+ issues, including student experiences, intersectionality, social justice, equity and other related topics. May also include sessions delivered to academic courses upon request by faculty.
  • Lead the planning, coordination and assessment of large-scale programs sponsored by CGS, as assigned (e.g., Lavender Graduation, Transgender Day of Remembrance, PRIDE Month).
  • Determine training and programming needs related to LGBTQIA+ inclusion through a data-driven approach, such as focus groups, unit consultations, relevant research and national benchmarking. Manage and facilitate trainings for campus and community partners.
  • Develop and execute marketing and promotional plans for programs, workshops, and events.
  • Advise the CGS Director on issues of LGBTQIA+ equity and inclusion, including policy updates, campus environment concerns, and national trends.
  • Create and foster cross-cultural partnerships and collaborations among campus student groups on a broad range of issues including sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.
  • Develop and foster partnerships with community organizations to provide complimentary services and supports.
  • Lead the development of a CGS living learning community in collaboration with Housing and Residence Life and other campus partners.
  • Advise LGBTQIA+ student organizations (e.g., UM-Flint PRIDE).
  • Maintain updated resource and referral information for students and the campus community.
  • Support the day-to-day functioning of the Center for Gender and Sexuality.
  • Support projects and initiatives within the Division of Student Affairs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.Required Qualifications*
    • Bachelor's degree in a related area.
    • 2-4 years of related experience.
    • Knowledge and command of LGBTQIA+ specific issues and experiences as it relates to student development and higher education.
    • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, social justice, and inclusion.
    • Highly collaborative, cooperative, inclusive, and willing to work both independently and take direction.
    • Possess a high level of self-awareness and integrity, with the ability to navigate boundaries.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to participate in evening and weekend events as necessary.Desired Qualifications*
      • Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling, social sciences, or related field.
      • 3-5 years of student affairs experience in higher education.
      • Knowledge of data-driven research and assessment informed practices.
      • Knowledge of issues that impact the retention and success of students from underrepresented populations and intersecting social identities.
