A day in the life as a Graduate Nurse with MyMichigan Health
Nurse Residency Program - Graduate Nurse
MyMichigan Health is proud to offer an ANCC accredited RN Residency
program for new graduate nurses. The RN Residency program, called
the MyMichigan Health Transition to Practice Program, is an
evidence-based curriculum offering new nurses a collaborative
learning environment to successfully transition into clinical
practice. Residents work alongside experienced staff and learn in a
real-life setting to build skills and confidence to be better
prepared as they enter the workforce. With our accreditation from
the ANCC, you can rely on quality residency content, knowledge and
experience of faculty, evidence-based practice, satisfaction of
residents and most important, improved patient care and
outcomes.
The MyMichigan Health residency program consists of didactic
classroom learning, hands-on skills training, technology
instruction, relationship building and other valuable tools to
facilitate learning and a successful transition to practice.
Transition to Practice Sessions
The Transition to Practice Program is a comprehensive 12-month
curriculum designed to assist new graduate nurses in the transition
from an entry-level RN to a competent RN. The program focuses on
building critical thinking and professional practice skills as
opposed to specialty specific technical skills. During the program
residents meet virtually every month for 2-hours.
Pathway Classes
As part of the orientation process, enrollment in the pathway
classes is dependent on specialty unit. Pathway classes are offered
for medical/surgical nursing, progressive care nursing, critical
care nursing, and behavioral health nursing. Classes build on the
foundation of nursing by providing the knowledge necessary to
provide safe, quality patient care on specialty units. Residents
are enrolled in their pathway at the time of hire and must complete
their pathway within the first year. Classes are offered in-person
or virtually and average from three to six hours per class.
Unit Specific Orientation
Upon hire, you will be paired with a skilled preceptor on your home
unit. Over the course of your unit specific orientation, you will
learn the skills necessary to become a competent nurse on the

the end of each shift as a way for the resident to learn and grow
in their nursing practice.
