Summary
*LOCATION: EASTERN REGION*
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Responsible for supporting use of clinical information systems that
assist clinicians in the delivery of patient care in the physician
office setting and in the conduct of QA/research. Participates as a
member of the EMR Physician Advisory Committee and Information
Technology Committee in representing the needs and requirements of
the physician community and serves as an advocate of management in
promoting the use of information technology in the clinical
setting. Works in partnership with Information Technology (IT)
Department Design and Implementation Teams to translate clinician
requirements into specifications for new clinical and Quality
improvement systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
(30%)* Provides guidance and makes decisions regarding business and
clinical needs.
(20%)* Reviews software/medical Informatics functionality/updates
regularly.
(20%)* Design metrics to measure quality indices, utilization of
the EMR along with return on investment (ROI) analysis.
(15%)* Functions on the Ambulatory EMR steering committee.
(15%)* Participates in the EMR Physicians Advisory Committee (PAC),
a clinical advisory group seeking broad-based input into design of
clinical information systems.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED EDUCATION:
PHYSICIAN - Doctor - DO or MD Required Equivalent Experience
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Generates enthusiasm for software.
Functions as change agent during implementation within the Family
Medicine Residency, MPG offices and private practices.
Communicates business and functional needs during the
implementation process.
Champions the migration toward EMR solutions and ensures respective
departments/offices are prepared to utilize solutions.
Reports back to administration regularly on progress of
project.
Integrally involved with Template build and specialty based
documentation requirements.
Work with other members of implementation team to: Design clinical
pathway models with Physician, Nursing and administrative
leadership.
Attend training sessions.
Actively communicate design requirements and participate in design
sessions.
Ensure design is validated with key stakeholders from each of their
areas.
Execute the system "build" activities and ensure build complies
with all design elements and quality measures.
Works closely with and or executes testing and training functions
Ensures all necessary components and plans are developed, executed
and measured for quality and completeness.
Participate in simulation activities Assist with development and
execution of "Go-Live" preparation and tasks.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS:
The Medical Informatics Officer will be a licensed physician with
current medical practice required.
Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and can work effectively
with a diversity of personalities.
Must be approachable, show respect for others and be able to
present data with effective communication and presentation
skills.
Must be an effective consensus builder.
Possesses good grasp of clinical work flow in both inpatient and
outpatient settings, interest in clinical information systems and
outcomes measurement.
Must have the ability to develop flexible, transferable models for
pathways of care.
Is a strong leader with a mature sense of priorities and solid
practical experience who can design and implement systems within
the framework of technical boundaries.
Is politically savvy, has a high tolerance for ambiguity and can
work successfully in a matrix management model.
Is a systems thinker with strong organizational skills who can pull
all the pieces together and deliver on time and within budget.
Is a strong manager who is adaptable and has strong collaborative
management style, a creative thinker with high energy and
enthusiasm, and a team player who promotes the concepts of people
working together versus individual performance.
Is a contemporary clinician who understands major trends in
healthcare and managed care, and is familiar with point of care
products and medical informatics trends and tools.
Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
training must also be complete annually according to the Exposure
Control Plan.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public
contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.
Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex
materials or appropriate substitute if required for your
position.
Is able to move freely about the unit and hospital.
Overall vision is necessary; including reading, depth perception,
close-up work and must have a peripheral field of vision.
Hearing and speech on the phone as well as in person are
necessary.
Must be able to communicate verbally in person, on the phone and in
writing.
Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time.
Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially
infectious material.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work
independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to
stay awake.
Must follow MidMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing
as required.
