Job Description:

Summary/Objective The Risk Manager oversees the implementation of programs in risk management, patient safety, and compliance across all campuses under the direction of the VP, Clinical Services. The Risk Manager is actively involved in department activities, transdisciplinary team activities, and facility activities to ensure individualized, patient-centered healthcare for all patient populations admitted to the facility. Essential Functions Serves as the Compliance Office for a facility by assuring the completion of all compliance programs activities, including coordinating the completion of staff education on compliance, maintaining compliance logs, conducting internal audits and participating in the corporate compliance conference calls. Chairs the Facility Compliance Committee. Serves as the primary Patient Safety Officer by assuring the implementation of the Patient Safety Plan throughout the facility. Chairs the Facility Patient Safety Committee. Assures compliance with the mandatory reporting requirements for the PAPSRS as well as disclosure within specified time frame as required by state statute. Oversees the Complaint and Grievance Process for the facility. Collects and screens all incident reports. Assures the maintenance of complaint and grievance logs. Assures compliance with follow up grievance letters as required by state and federal agencies. Provides regular reports to the Administrator and VP, Clinical Services on complaints and grievances. Implements a program of risk identification and evaluation on a facility level. Implements a program of risk reduction strategies. Provides risk management education to staff and physicians. Collaborates with department managers on relevant process improvement initiatives. Analyzes trends and data. Communicates with Administrator, Corporate Legal Counsel, and VP, Clinical Services. Assess liability and probability of legal action. File corporate incident reports as necessary. Provides reports of risk management activities to the Governing Board. Coordinates investigation of claims for facility by directing in-house claims investigation and obtaining material for attorneys. Conducts medical record reviews, staff interviews, and inspections as indicated. Adheres to company's policy, procedures, all safety plans and standards imposed by the regulatory organizations. Regular attendance and timeliness is required Competencies Thorough understanding and knowledge of healthcare, legal and regulatory practices. Strong problem solving, conflict management and consensus building skills. Interpersonal skills to operate in a collaborative, shared leadership environment with a high degree of confidence, leadership initiative and a results-oriented approach to management. Excellent organizational and planning skills as well as the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information. Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to patients, families, physicians, co-workers, and visitors. Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. Ability to understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem solving and decision making. Ability to respond to emergency or crisis in a calm and professional manner as a team member or team leader to resolve the crisis or emergency. Ability to work independently and perform routine and detail-oriented tasks. Ability to consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one. Ability to review, assess, record or type data quickly and accurately. Supervisory Responsibility OR This position is an individual contributor and does not manage/supervise other employees. Work Environment This job operates in an facility environment. This role routinely uses office equipment such as telephone, fax/copy machine, computer, printer, & calculator. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally/frequently/continuously required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms. Sensory abilities required by the job include close vision and hearing. Ability to lift, move, transport and position equipment or supplies/materials up to ten (10) pounds without assistance; or over ten (10) pounds with the aid of mechanical assistance or assistance of personnel. Range of motion and mobility of self by positioning or moving around facility; including sitting, standing, walking, bending, squatting, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing and reaching Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a Full-time position, and business days and hours as scheduled. Longer hours, evenings and weekend work will be necessary occasionally. Travel This position requires up to 0% travel. Required Education and Experience Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Certification: Current RN or LVN-LPN Clinical License is state where practicing.
