Job Description:

Brown Machine located in Beaverton, MI has an exciting opportunity for a Paper Engineer for our growing paper business! We are looking for someone who has knowledge and experience in the field of paper properties and paper applications. The Paper Engineer will be an integral member in driving the new product innovation as well as assisting in mechanical/tooling designs and modifications and new equipment related to paper forming. The Paper Engineer will also provide technical assistance for solutions to production problems relating to materials, processes, and tooling. This position works closely with our production, engineering, maintenance, and marketing departments. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support production crews to help solve problems through process and design.
  • Research paper/materials technology for opportunities to develop new products.
  • Complete research needed for processing and forming paper (i.e. raw materials, chemistry, and extensibility of paper related to forming).
  • Develop testing plans and data tables for analyzing with engineering staff.
  • Develop paper machinery, paper tooling, and technical process standards for the paper product line.
  • Assist in the design and participate in design reviews of various sections within the equipment and tooling to meet required specifications. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Read and interpret work orders and specifications
    • Assist Marketing and Manufacturing departments on product design and production
    • Provide input on job estimates and market sizing for new products as required
    • Help with concept and layout drawings as well as drawing changes to ensure design meets accepted engineering standards and project requirements
    • Participate in design reviews for evaluation of work order requirements
    • Assist in representing the design team in customer and final design reviews
    • Ensure design considerations, concepts and calculations are documented and filed
    • Direct various design activities on assigned projects. EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:
      • Bachelors degree or higher in paper science, material science, chemical engineering or equivalent experience. Prefer 2-4 years' experience in technology and new product development in paper forming.
      • Working knowledge of raw materials, chemistry, and environmental technology.
      • Knowledge of 3D CAD software and analysis tools
      • Ability to apply engineering and scientific principles to develop new product and resolve problems
      • Impeccable attention to detail
      • Positive team-oriented attitude
      • Ability to plan, schedule, coordinate and problem solve effectively
      • Excellent written and oral communication skills on a technical level
      • Can work independently with little or no supervision
      • Able to mentor and coach team members
      • A minimum requirement for this position is the ability to work legally in the United States on a permanent basis. No visa/sponsorship/support is available for this position.
