Communities First, Inc. is a Michigan-based nonprofit 501c3 whose mission is to build healthy, vibrant communities through economic development, affordable housing and innovative programming. CFI is focused on providing safe, quality affordable housing, increasing economic opportunities, and improving the quality of life of the populations that the organization serves.Job Summary:The marketing and communication coordinator is responsible for ensuring consistency in the Communities First, Inc. brand through verbal, visual, digital and written communication strategies. The right candidate will fuel interest in and engagement with in the organization, increasing support and awareness of CFI's amazing community development work across the country.Essential Functions:Leads planning, development and implementation of multifaceted internal and external communications strategies, including but not limited to:

  • News releases and media relations,
  • Internal communications,
  • Social media,
  • Donor and key stakeholder communications,
  • Web and multimedia,
  • Telling the story of Communities First, Inc.
  • Provides guidance on executive communications, including speeches, for the president and other senior officers/key individuals,
  • Plays a lead role in issue management and crisis communications,
  • Maintains close relationships with executive team, leveraging the strengths of the full team to ensure CFI Communications goals are achieved and projects are completed with maximum results,
  • Collaborates and nurtures productive relationships with government, stakeholders,
  • Provides media relations support for senior officers and employees being interviewed,
  • Serves as a liaison with community leaders, supporting marketing, branding and communications efforts that connect and advance our cities collectively,
  • Uses metrics and data to measure results and make decisions,
  • Stays abreast of communications trends and technology in order to evolve CFI Communication strategies as appropriate,
  • Uses creativity to reach community, donors and stakeholders,
  • Oversee the development and use of various communications vehicles including but not limited to the organizations website, newsletters, articles, letters, updates, reports, electronic communications, surveys and other correspondence,
  • Maintain CFI brand standards and communication style across all communication platforms,
  • Attend community events and activities, and represent the CFI Brand as needed.

  • Education:University degree in marketing, journalism, communications, advertising, sales, or business administration, or equivalent.Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Training, and Experience:
    • Work experience in the nonprofit sector is preferred.
    • 2 - 3 years of work experience in the sector including the handling of communications, writing, editing, public relations, graphic design and marketing.
    • Knowledge and experience in publishing print and web media.
    • Highly effective project management, prioritization, multi-tasking, and time management skills to meet deadlines.
    • Strong presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
    • Excellent understanding of brand management.
